Is That a Crocodile on Your Floor?

As an interior designer, I’m always on the lookout for things that give a room that special “wow” factor. It could be a fantastic fabric, a beautiful color, an unusual accessory or piece of art. Or a new material I haven’t seen before. And when I came across these floor tiles I was tempted to rip out my oak floors and lay this flooring in their place.

Look carefully at the photo and see if you can figure out what it is. Hard to tell, right? Well, it’s recycled leather.

The leather is collected from all the wonderful high-end Italian shoe manufacturers and recycled into sheets, which are then bonded to a cork backing. Apparently, it’s tough as nails, has a hint of leathery fragrance and looks decidedly “luxe.” It’s made by a company called Merida.

There are several different colors and textures to choose from. I think it would look fabulous in a library or den. Local flooring stores should be able to get it for you. Ask for the Veledo recycled leather flooring.

Do you know anyone who has leather on their floors? Would you put leather on your floors? I’m dying to know. Please email me, at fpearson@mainstreetconnect.us.
