The Purim holiday is a part of biblical history that dates back over 2,500 years ago and commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people to safety by the Heroine Queen Esther and Hero Mordechai of the ancient Persian Empire from the hands of the Villainous Haman's plot to annihilate them, as recorded in the Megillah-Book of Esther. It is celebrated by reading of the megillah (book of Esther), which recounts the story of the Purim miracle, giving gifts of money to the poor, sending gifts of food to friends, and participating in a Purim feast. This year Purim falls out on March 11-12 which corresponds to the Hebrew date of Adar 14.
