Puppets Perform Aesop's Fables

In a face-off with computer games, Jim West's puppet shows win hands down when it comes to entertaining kids Pre-K to grade four. Super Mario, consider yourself out-performed! Test this with your kids when West brings his large-scale puppet show, Aesop's Fables, to Stamford's Palace Theatre on July 22. Among the stories he and his fellow artists perform are: The Lion and the Mouse, The Tortoise and the Hare, and the Fox and the Grapes. Added value (at least as far as parents are concerned) is West's use of music by Scarlatti, Beethoven, and Chopin in the show. Super Mario, outclassed again!

Jim West's puppet shows are part of New York-based TheatreWorks USA's repertoire. It is the country's largest, professional not-for-profit theatre for young audiences. Since its creation in 1961, 78 million people have seen its shows which travel throughout the country and to Canada. Theatreworks's 117 plays and musicals, as well as storytellers, poets and magicians, land wherever there is an audience anxious to see them. Their educational and fun-filled shows stir imaginations even in very small towns, where the local elementary school gym is the largest venue.

West's production of Aesop Fables takes place at 10 a.m. and noon on July 22 at The Palace Theatre. Tickets are $5-$7. For more information, visit Stamford Center for the Arts' website.
