Museum Collects Antiques to Sell

Question for antiques lovers: where's the best place to buy seasoned, charming collectibles? At a museum, of course. So, bring a measuring tape and head over to the 15th Annual Antiques and Treasures Sale at Ridgefield's Keeler Tavern Museum. March yourself through its cavalcade of donated fine merchandise for sale. Prices are reasonable, so you won't have to sell the rest of your possessions to buy something. The inventory includes antique furniture, rugs, mirrors, paintings, glass, china, silver and other accessories. Wander through the displays in the Museum's garden, barn and backyard tent and you'll find unusual items that have been tucked away in attics and closets, many one-of-a-kind.

And after you've made your selections, be sure to devote some time discovering the Keeler Tavern Museum. It was fired on by British troops in 1777 and has had many uses since it was built in 1713. It's been a farmhouse, tavern and stagecoach stop. In 1907, famed architect Cass Gilbert purchased it as his summer home. He designed New York City's Woolworth Building and the Supreme Court Building in Washington, DC. After his death, Ridgefield citizens rallied to preserve the historic building, raising money to acquire it. In 1966, their efforts allowed it to open as the Keeler Tavern Museum.

Get a double dose of history -- some to take home with you, from the antiques sale, and more from a tour of the museum on August 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and August 8, noon to 5 p.m. Early-bird buying on August 6 costs $10. For more information, visit the Museum's website.
