Maritime Aquarium's Winter Cruises Spotlight Migrating Seals, Waterfowl

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk will seek out visiting seals and waterfowl on its upcoming Seal-Spotting and Birding Cruises. 

During the winter, harbor and gray seals migrate into the Sound from northern waters and rest on rocks exposed at low tide.

During the winter, harbor and gray seals migrate into Long Island Sound from northern waters and rest on rocks exposed at low tide. Aquarium educators will point them out and discuss their natural histories and the Sound's marine population during the winter season. 

Birders can also see and photograph visiting winter waterfowl including buffleheads, mergansers, Brant geese and long-tailed ducks

The Aquarium's hybrid-electric propulsion research vessel Spirit of the Sound will embark on 2 and a half hour outings on Jan. 2 at 10 a.m., Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. and on 12 more outings through April 3. 

Tickets are $24.95 or $19.95 for members. Due to limited capacity, advance registrations are recommended.
