I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia,  all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Wappingers School District Notes Diabetes Awareness Month DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y.—The Wappingers Central School District reminds students and families that November is National Diabetes (Type 1) Awareness Month, and that World Diabetes Day is Saturday. The school district supports Project Blue, an outreach and advocacy organization for people who have Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is not related to excess weight or poor nutrition. It usually starts in childhood or adolescence. The school urges people to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes, such wearing blue on Fridays in November, and monitoring their health.

SUNY New Paltz Students Protest Rising Tuition NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – SUNY New Paltz students protested rising tuition costs by walking out of class on Thursday, Nov. 12, saying that education should be a right rather than a luxury, Time Warner News reported. Westlake Middle School Students Create Scary Science Experiments MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Westlake Middle School students displayed their three-dimensional topographical maps of invented places such as Scaredy Cat Island, Cauldron Cove, and Witch Hat Wasteland on the day before Halloween. The students also had to present two-dimensional contour maps and tourist brochures. Earth science teachers Miquel Cohn and Lawrence McIntyre were pleased with their students’ enthusiasm and proficiency. The maps and artwork are on display in the main hallway’s art case.
