In March, a study found that areas of Fairfield County were among the most expensive places to raise a family. Heater Causes Fire In Bridgeport Apartment BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A space heater caused a fire at an apartment in the Green Homes housing complex in Bridgeport on Thursday, according to News 12. The heater was left too close to a bed, and caused the fire to break out at around 4 p.m., News 12 reported. Firefighters responded and were able to keep the fire from spreading to other apartments, according to News 12. Residents are reminded to avoid using fuel-powered space heaters, as well as to check and make sure their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. Bridgeport Man Charged With Strangling Woman In Norwalk NORWALK , Conn. — Norwalk Police charged a Bridgeport man with strangling a woman during an argument over missing heroin on Thursday, according to the Hour. Police told the Hour that they responded to a Prospect Street home on a report of an altercation at around 5:30 p.m., and could hear an altercation and an argument over missing heroin through the door when they arrived. Locations Open As Warming Centers In Trumbull TRUMBULL, Conn. -- Several locations in Trumbull are open as warming centers during the extreme cold, according to the Office of Emergency Management.Both the Westfield Trumbull Mall and Hawley Lane Mall are available during normal business hours as warming centers. The library and the Senior Center at Priscilla Place will be available during normal business hours as well. For additional questions, call 2-1-1 for shelter and warming center information. Residents are also asked to check on elderly neighbors during the cold weather, and to limit exposure to the cold.

Three People Hospitalized After Stratford Crash STRATFORD, Conn. — Three people were sent to the hospital after a car crashed into a parked car in Stratford on Friday, according to the Connecticut Post. The crash took place at around 1:30 p.m. on Stratford Avenue, according to the Connecticut Post. Police told the Connecticut Post that the accident was serious. Norwalk Tax Office Offers Extended Hours This Weekend NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Tax Collector’s Office will add additional hours in order to accommodate taxpayers who desire to pay current fiscal year property taxes, which are due Jan. 1, 2018, before the end of the calendar year 2017. Westport Senior Center, Library Open As Warming Centers WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Center for Senior Activities is open to the public as a warming center on Friday and Saturday, Human Services Director Elaine Daignault announced.
