Blood Drives To Be Held In Effort To Save 4-Year-Old Boy With Leukemia A number of blood drives are being held in the area this month in the hope of saving a Long Island 4-year-old with leukemia.  Nassau County resident Ayden Paredes, of Glen Cove, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Feb. 7 of 2021, according to Mark Paredes, Ayden's father.  Ayden has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and blood transfusions since then, but doctors are now saying he needs a blood stem cell/bone marrow transplant to save his life, Mark said. Five Rescued From Capsized Boat In Long Island Sound Five people were rescued after their boat overturned in the Long Island Sound. The incident happened Tuesday, July 7 at about 4:30 p.m. off the coast of Crab Meadow Beach in Fort Salonga in Suffolk County. Upon arriving, Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers Dave Froehlich and Patrick Ennis found the five, all men, standing on the underside of a recreational 21-foot Pro-Line vessel that overturned after being struck by a wave approximately 20 minutes earlier.
