Darien Student Musicians Honored at Festivals

DARIEN, Conn. – Several musical ensembles from Darien schools received awards for their performances in recent music festivals held throughout New England.

Musicians from Middlesex Middle School and all the elementary schools played at the Music in the Parks Festival at Lake Compounce in Bristol on June 2. The following groups won first place in their categories: the Middlesex jazz ensemble, the Darien All-Town elementary honors orchestra, the Middlesex seventh and eighth grade orchestra, the Middlesex honors band, the All-Town elementary honors chorus and the Middlesex camerata singers.

The Darien elementary school honors band included 37 students from all five elementary schools who traveled to Springfield, Mass., on May 19 to perform in the Music in the Parks Festival. It received high marks from judges for its performances of "First Suite for Military Band" by Holst and "Academic Festival Overture" by Brahms.

The Darien High School concert choir and Tudor singers participated in the Great East Adjudicated Music Festival in West Springfield, Mass., on May 10. Each ensemble performed three selections for a panel of judges. The concert choir was awarded a gold rating for its performance, and the Tudor singers received a platinum rating, the highest level awarded.
