Morrison's resignation as anchor for the morning and noon news was effective immediately. He has worked for the station since 2009.

"My family is my first and only priority right now and I have informed CBS 2 management that I need to put all of my time and energy into making sure that I do what's best for my wife and my son," he said in a statement. "I very much appreciate the opportunity that CBS 2 has given me and I thank them for accepting my decision."

Morrison was accused of trying to choke his wife, CBS Money Watch anchor Ashley Morrison, during an altercation, according to police reports. He also made threats against her after being taken into custody, police said. He was charged with second-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct.

Morrison denied the charges when appearing in court Tuesday. He did not offer a plea, but was ordered to stay 100 feet away from his wife and to have no contact with her.
