John Foster, 75, Darien Country Club Director

DARIEN, Conn. – John Munoz Foster, a longtime resident of Darien, died July 7 at Stamford Hospital surrounded by family. He was 75. 

Most recently of Rowayton, Foster was a former director of the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien.

Born Nov. 23, 1936, in East Orange, N.J., he was the son of John Edward Foster and Isabel Munoz Foster. He graduated from Montclair Academy in 1954, serving as president of his senior class and the student council, editor-in-chief of the yearbook and the football team co-captain. 

Foster was selected all-state in his senior year of high school as well as receiving the faculty Head Boy Award. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1958, where he was elected president of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and was a member of Casque and Gauntlet. 

He married June Hayward Foster in 1972. Foster began his career at Fieldcrest Cannon Inc., maintaining profit and loss responsibilities for large mill complexes and private label accounts. 

After serving as Fieldcrest's division vice president, Foster became senior vice president of the executive search firm of Boyden International in 1978, managing the New York office and serving on their board of directors. 

He continued his executive career by founding Foster Resources and Company in 1992. He also joined the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, where he was able to explore his passion for acting and singing, eventually leading to a career in voice-overs. 

Locally, Foster was a member and a soloist of the Connecticut Choraliers. He was a member of the Sankaty Golf Club on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. He was a former member of Montclair Golf Club and a member of the Union League Club in New York City. 

Foster is survived by his wife, June; a son, John E. Foster; a daughter, Carmita F. McGeary; a stepdaughter, Barbara R. Hunter; two stepsons, William W. Hunter and James C. Hunter; and 14 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his half-brother, Charles E. Foster. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Luke's Parish in Darien. Edward Lawrence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
