Two Charged in Darien Roadside Fight

DARIEN, Conn. – An argument between Charles Benedicto, 67, of Darien and Keith Dayton, 50, of Stamford on Sunday led to a minor scuffle and both being arrested. Dayton told police he was turning his car from Hollow Tree Ridge Road onto Post Road when he heard someone yelling behind him. He said it was Benedicto, shouting that Dayton had cut him off while he was on his bicycle. The two got into an argument, and Dayton told police that he thought Benedicto was going to hit him, so he hit Benedicto first on the chin. The police received numerous calls about the fight, and when they showed up both men were on the side of the road and very apologetic about the incident. They were both charged with breach of the peace, and Benedicto received an additional charge of third-degree assault. They were given summonses to appear in court on Oct. 13.Also from the police blotter:David Kochi, 26, of Stamford was charged with drunken driving early Saturday morning after he forgot to signal a turn, police said. He was driving in front of a police cruiser on Poster Road when he turned onto West Avenue without using his turn signal. He was pulled over, and the officer detected the odor of alcohol and saw that Kochi had bloodshot eyes. He failed his field sobriety test and was arrested.
