Elf in Pinstripes to Rappel With Santa

A major sports figure, a Broadway star, a fireworks display and dozens of city schoolchildren will be part of Sunday's Heights & Lights holiday extravaganza in downtown Stamford. As in previous years, major attractions include the Latham Park Christmas Tree lighting and Santa rappelling down the Landmark Building's 22 stories.

Coaching Santa as he makes his descent this year will be New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman of Darien. He'll fill the role as one of the celebrity elves who rappel alongside Santa.

Darien native Dan Micciche, a 2003 graduate of Darien High School, also will be part of the holiday celebration. The professional singer, actor and musical director got his start in Stamford's Curtain Call theater group at age 10. His credits include the Broadway show and a touring company of "Chicago."

Micciche will lead a holiday sing-along. Also providing music for the occasion will be fourth-grade and middle school singers from King and the King Children's Orchestra.

The tree lighting will take place at nearby Latham Park after the rappel. A tree donated by Bartlett Tree Co. will be featured.

Stamford Downtown Special Services District organized the event. It is free and open to the public. Festivities start at 4:30 p.m. For additional information, call 203-348-5285.
