The Wreaths Across America caravan is on its way to Arlington National Cemetery for its annual wreath-laying ceremony, scheduled for noon on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The public is invited to the rest stop near Darien on I-95 to watch the caravan of support vehicles, Patriot Guard motorcycles and tractor-trailers filled with wreaths stop off briefly. Bring a flag and show your support for veterans and the wreath brigade.
Wreath-laying ceremonies will be held simultaneously on Saturday, Dec. 13, at local cemeteries throughout the country.
Spring Grove Veterans Cemetery in Darien, where more than 1,000 wreath sponsorships were collected by local groups, will participate. Wreath sponsorships were sold every weekend in front of local businesses.
The effort was headed by Terrence Gaffney, treasurer of Darien's Monuments and Ceremonies Commission; and joined by Darien's Good Wife's River Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge 107; the Masonic Club of Darien; Darien's VFW Post 6933; Darien High School Support Our Soldiers group; local youth hockey teams; and Boy Scout troops.
Many local businesses donated money for the wreaths.
