Guilty Verdict In Brutal Robbery-Murder Of CT Man Brings Justice, DA Says
A Connecticut man has been found guilty of killing another man on a playground in a robbery-murder plot.
Rickey Trayham, age 28, of New Haven, was found guilty on Wednesday, May 31 by a jury in New Haven of the murder of Rondell Atkinson on Monday, June 7, 2021, said New Haven State’s Attorney John Doyle, Jr.
According to evidence introduced at trial, Traynham shot Atkinson, age 33, of West Haven, during a robbery at the Pease Road Playground in Woodbridge.

Man Killed After SUV Crashes Into Cement Wall On CT Roadway
A Connecticut man was killed during a single-vehicle crash.
It happened around 2:20 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20 on Route 8 in the city of Torrington in Litchfield County.
According to Connecticut State Police, New Haven County resident Barry Zaret, age 82, of Woodbridge, was traveling southbound near Exit 45, when his 2015 Toyota Rav4 left the roadway, drove on a grassy media and up a dirt mount before taking flight, and hitting the guardrail before colliding into a cement wall on Winthrop Street in Torrington.

A quick-moving storm system has knocked out power to thousands of Connecticut residents.
Wind gusts as high as around 60 miles per hour have resulted in downed trees and tree limbs, with eastern Connecticut most heavily affected.

Second Suspect Nabbed For Fatal Shooting Outside Club In Bridgeport
A second man has been apprehended for his alleged role in the shooting death of another man at a nightclub in Fairfield County.
Kadeem Frazer, age 28, of Bridgeport, was arrested for his role in the Saturday, Oct. 2, murder of Jonathan DaSilva at the VIP Lounge on Pembroke Street.
Frazer was driving the vehicle, as Robert Sorrells, who was arrested on October 21, fired the shots that killed the victim from the passenger’s seat of Frazer’s car, according to Scott Appleby, director of Emergency Management for the City of Bridgeport.

Woman Killed, Six Seriously Injured After Car Crashes Into Tree, CT State Police Say
A woman was killed and six other people suffered serious injures in a single-vehicle crash in Connecticut.
It happened just before 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13 in New Haven County.
The vehicle involved, a Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on Route 15 near Exit 58 in Woodbridge, when the vehicle veered into the right shoulder before striking a tree, according to state police.
The victim has been identified as a passenger in the Accord, Siryania Albino-De Fernandez, age 30 of Union City, New Jersey.
She was rushed to Yale-New Haven where she was later pronounced dead, state police said.

Arrest Made In CT Playground Shooting Death
A Connecticut man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of another man at a popular playground.
Jorden Rudel, age 24, was arrested on Thursday, July 1 in New Haven County by detectives from the Woodbridge Police Department and the CT State Police for the Monday, June 7 murder of a 33-year-old man.
Rudel, of Derby, is charged with shooting Rondell Atkinson, on the property of the Pease Road Playground/Alegi Athletic Field in Woodbridge, police said.

Covid-19: 40 Percent Of CT Deaths In Nursing Homes, State Says, Releasing Rundown Of Cases
The Connecticut State Department of Health broke down a list of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases statewide to find that nearly 40 percent of all deaths due to the virus were in nursing homes.
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced that there have been 53,122 people tested, with a total of 15,884 positive cases as of late on Thursday, Feb. 16. Of those cases, 1926 patients are still hospitalized.
There have been 971 fatalities since the outbreak began. Of those deaths, 375 have been in nursing homes, where there are still 1,713 COVID-19 cases.

Here's How Many Are Still Without Power Two Days After Rain, Wind Storm
More than 1,000 Connecticut residents are still without power two days after a series of storms ripped through the region, flooding the area, downing trees and power lines.
As of just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, about 48 hours after the storms began, Eversource was still working to repair outages that continue to impact 1,035 of its 1,279,556 customers. United Illuminating was also still working on one outage in Woodbridge that was affecting three customers.
