Sara Carolina Alonso, 24, is facing felony child neglect charged after two young girls were left unattended and had to be evaluated by fire and rescue personnel on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

At around noon on June 3, officers from the Prince William County Police Department were called to the Bayvue Apartments in the 1400 block of Bayside Avenue, where there was a child found, but no adult in sight.

Investigators say that it was determined the 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl were left unattended for "an extended period of time" by Carolina, prompting the call to the police.

The children were uninjured and later released to other "known parties."

Alonso was arrested and charged with two counts of felony child abuse. She is being held without bond pending her next court appearance.
