A Virginia family escaped a Monday, April 22 house fire unscathed, authorities said.
Flames were shooting from the home on the 15000 block of Merrily Way in Woodbridge, when firefighters arrived before dawn, according to the Prince William County Fire Department.
According to NBC Washington, a nearby, on-duty officer noticed the fire and began pounding on the door. A neighbor was wailing on her horn in an apparent effort to wake the family up, the outlet said.
Moments later, two adults, their son, and the family dogs left the home.

Victim Seriously Injured In Prince William County House Fire: Police
A large fire consumed a Prince William County home early on Wednesday, Sept. 21, leaving one occupant seriously injured, officials said. At around midnight, fire crews arrived at home in flames, in the 12000 block of Point Longstreet Way, according to the Prince William County Fire and Rescue System.
Two adults and a child were inside the home and started to evacuate away from the flames, authorities said.

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, at around 1:45 a.m., fire crews arrived at a home in the 6600 block of Barrett Road in Falls Church, where they put out a fire and pulled two victims and a dog from the blaze, officials said.

Early Morning House Fire Kills Juvenile, Dog In Falls Church
A house fire in Fairfax County took the lives of a juvenile and a dog on Tuesday, September 6, officials said. At around 1:45 a.m., firefighters reported to the home in the 6600 block of Barrett Road to extinguish the blaze, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
Two occupants and one dog were pulled from the fire and given medical attention, authorities said.

Two of three occupants of a Lincolnia residence escaped a house fire on Friday, August 5, but one individual had to be rescued, officials said.
At around 3 a.m., fire officials arrived in 4900 block of Grafton Street to put out a fire on the second floor and rescue the sole occupant who was trapped, according the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
