Spotsylvania resident John O’Quinn, 78, was killed on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when his Infiniti QX60 SUV was struck head-on by an 18-year-old driver in a Toyota Hylander on Courthouse Road, according to investigators.
First responders from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, where there was a reported head-on crash involving the two vehicles in the 5900 block of Courthouse Road.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel reported that both vehicles were there with significant damage.
Witnesses told first responders that the Toyota was traveling east along the roadway when it crossed over the center dividing line and struck the SUV head-on, causing the Highlander to overturn and strike a tree.
The 18-year-old man from Spotsylvania - whose name was not released - was extricated from the vehicle by Fire/Rescue personnel and transported to an area Trauma Center in serious, but stable condition. O’Quinn was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unclear what caused the teen to cross over the yellow line and cause the fatal crash.
Officials say that the crash remains under investigation by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
