A Fairfax County woman won a $1 million Powerball ticket, thanks to her son. Maria Roldan’s son had a Powerball ticket, but he was about to go on vacation and would miss the drawing. So he gave his Vienna mother the ticket. That turned out to be a $1 million gift. The ticket matched the first five winning numbers in the March 11 drawing. In fact, it was the only ticket in the nation to win the $1 million prize in that drawing. An 80-year-old driver was served on summons-releasable charges in connection to a deadly crash in Fairfax County last month, police announced. Gamaathige Desoya, of Vienna, was trying to turn left onto northbound Kirby Road on Aug. 12 in McLean, when she struck Brigitte Foster, 86, who was in the crosswalk, the FCPD said. A Lorton man was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for causing a woman to die from a drug overdose, the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia said.
