Fewer Lives Lost: Thanksgiving Traffic Deaths Drop Across Virginia For Third Straight Year
Seven people lost their lives in crashes on Virginia roadways over the 2024 Thanksgiving holiday, a significant decrease from previous years, according to Virginia State Police.
The five-day period surveyed by officials, which ran from Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1, saw seven fatal crashes across the state in Bath, Culpeper, Page, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Warren, and Wythe counties, officials said.
It represents an improvement compared to 11 fatalities in 2023 and a steep drop from 19 in 2022.

New Forecast: Increased Snowfall Totals Expected, Arctic Temps To Follow Northeast Storm
Newly-released forecast maps show parts of the region could see up to six inches of snow in the end-of-week storm.
Intermittent snow is expected to begin between 4 and 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, with the heaviest amounts falling in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
Snow will fall at about 0.5 inches per hour and will taper by the evening, with temps in the upper 20s and low 30s, the NWS said.

An 82-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car in Prince William County, authorities said.
The crash happened on Hoadly Road near Ridgefield Village Drive in Manassas around 4:40 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, according to the Prince William County Police Department.
Alice L. Fouchea, 82, of Manassas, was walking in the roadway outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by the driver of a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle that was traveling east on Hoadly Road, police said.
