Southeast, DC resident James Jones, 41, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder while armed for his alleged role in the deaths of local residents David Wright, 57, and 54-year-old Nathaniel Howard, both of Southeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, officers in the Sixth District were called to the 3300 block of D Street in Southeast, DC, to investigate a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found Howard and Wright both suffering from gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the scene and reported both men dead at the scene. Their bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies to determine the exact cause of death.
James was taken into custody without incident, and a weapon was recovered at the time of his arrest. Detectives also made note that the investigation determined that Jones and his victims were known to each other.
Police did not release information about Jones’ initial court appearance.
