At around 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, members of the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 2200 block of New York Avenue NE when a sergeant was struck by gunfire while riding in his personal vehicle.

The sergeant was treated by DC Fire and EMS personnel and taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Police say that the department is now looking for a gray Honda with heavily tinted windows and unknown Maryland tags. It was last seen driving north on Montana Avenue NE from New York Avenue NE.

The shooting and subsequent investigation led to a host of road closures in the area.
