Maryland's Omer Balva Killed By Hezbollah Anti-Tank Missile While Serving In IDF
A Maryland native died while serving in the Israeli Defense Forces, those who knew him said.
Omer Balva, 22, of Rockville, died on Friday, Oct. 20, by an antitank missile fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon, the IDF confirmed.
Balva, a dual American-Israeli citizen, was a commander in the 9203rd Battalion of the Alexandroni Brigade, from Herzliya.

A Virginia family's nanny has been charged with killing a man in their home last February, even though the family's husband and father initially took the blame for the shooting in a 9-1-1 call, authorities said.
Juliana Peres Magalhaes, 23, of Reston, is believed to have shot Joseph Ryan, 39, of Springfield, in the Banfield family's home on the 13200 block of Stable Brook Way in Herndon, the morning of Feb. 24, county police said.

Virginia FBI Agent Convicted Of Spying For Russia, Robert Hanssen, Found Dead In Fed Pen
Notorious FBI agent-turned-spy, Robert Hanssen, was found dead in his cell at a maximum security prison in Colorado, various news outlets are reporting citing federal officials.
The 79-year-old former Vienna, VA resident was apparently found unresponsive just before 7 a.m. on Monday, June 5, the Washington Post reports. Purported attempts to save him were unsuccessful.
Hanssen's case is considered among the most egregious espionage cases in US history.

DC Murder Suspect, 23, Arrested Two Years After Shooting: Police
D.C. police have arrested a suspect in connection with a 2020 murder, officials said. On Feb. 12, 2020, 60 year-old Barron Goodwin was found with a gunshot wound in the 800 block of 51st Street, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The bullet that hit Goodwin was allegedly shot through the window of a home, the Washington Post reported.
Goodwin was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Over two years later, police arrested 23 year-old Ky’Lee Palmer for first degree murder while armed, officials said.
