Fewer Lives Lost: Thanksgiving Traffic Deaths Drop Across Virginia For Third Straight Year Seven people lost their lives in crashes on Virginia roadways over the 2024 Thanksgiving holiday, a significant decrease from previous years, according to Virginia State Police. The five-day period surveyed by officials, which ran from Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1, saw seven fatal crashes across the state in Bath, Culpeper, Page, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Warren, and Wythe counties, officials said.  It represents an improvement compared to 11 fatalities in 2023 and a steep drop from 19 in 2022. Man Killed By Vehicle Inside Enclosed Construction Site In Alexandria, Police Say (Developing) One person was killed by a vehicle in a construction site in Alexandria on Wednesday morning, police say. Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on July 24, officers were called to the 5700 block of Duke Street, where there was a reported injury. Upon arrival, a spokesperson for the Alexandria Police Department says that they found a man inside the enclosed construction site who was fatally struck by the vehicle. DUI Teen Driver Arrested In Crash That Killed Pedestrian From Alexandria, Police Say A DUI teenage driver has been charged in a Fairfax County crash that killed a 35-year-old pedestrian this weekend, authorities said. The 17-year-old driver of a 2017 Jeep Cherokee was heading east on Lorton Road near Timarand Drive in Lortin, when he struck Jamar Caper, 35, of Alexandria, who was trying to cross Lorton Road around 10:35 p.m. Saturday, July 20, county police said.
