Former DC Metro Officer Gets Prison Time For Beating Unarmed Transit Rider
A former Washington DC Metro Transit (MTPD) officer will spend time on the other side of the prison bars for beating an unarmed rider with a metal baton during a bout of rage, federal authorities announced. Former Officer Andra Vance was sentenced on Wednesday to one year and one day in prison, followed by a year of supervised release for a civil rights violation that was reported in February 2018. “This sentencing should make clear that officers who abuse their authority will be held accountable, regardless of whether their actions occur on public streets or inside public transit systems,”…

Prosecutors say that there is insufficient evidence to pursue federal criminal civil rights or DC charges against Sgt. Reinaldo Otero-Camacho for his role in the fatal July 2022 shooting, which caused controversy last summer. At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022, Otero, a Fourth District sergeant, responded to a call of a shooting that happened in the 900 block of Longfell…

Three small towns in Maryland will pay $5 million to the parents of 19-year-old Anton Black, who died during a 2018 police encounter, and must implement new policing policies and use-of-force training, following a two-year legal battle. The suit was filed against the towns of Greensboro, Ridgely and Centreville, along with the state medical examiner's office, two police officers and their two police chiefs. In addition to the $5 million, the settlement requires policing changes to prevent deaths similar to Black's. The landmark settlement in the suit was filed by Black's parents and …

Video Shows Now-Former NJ Officer Beating Defenseless Suspect, Prosecutor Says
Body camera video proves that a now-former Paterson police officer beat a defenseless suspect with a flashlight and kneed him in the face in an apartment hallway, a grand jury indictment charges. Spencer Finch, 45, of Mahwah filed an official report maintaining that he needed to use force against what he claimed was a combative suspect, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. The video from a fellow officer’s bodycam tells a different story, Valdes added. Finch – who was with the department for nearly 18 years -- is charged with aggravated assault, official misconduct, perjury, t…
