Rabid Raccoon Removed From Behind Arlington Community Center A raccoon that was found behind the Charles Drew Community Center in Arlington last week has tested positive for rabies, officials said. Animal Control officials on July 7 captured the raccoon, who showed symptoms of rabies in the 3400 block of 22nd Street at around 7:30 a.m., Arlington County Animal Control reported. Soon after its capture, the raccoon tested positive for the rabies virus, officials reported. Firefighters Rescue Pooch On The Lam Who Escaped To Tiny Prince William Island Prince William County firefighters had to rescue a dog after it escaped from animal control earlier this week.  The fire department shared photos of a daring water rescue of a chihuahua who got loose from Animal Control and jumped into a pond to escape on Tuesday, July 5. Firefighters jumped into a boat along with animal control workers and captured the pirate pooch after it doggy paddled to a small island a few hundred feet away from the shore.  They returned the wet dog to shore without injury.
