The skeletal remains were found by construction workers on Sept. 27, 2001 in the 5100 block of Lincoln Circle, and authorities now know they belong to Patricia Gildawie, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Gildawie, a native of France who moved to Fairfax as an infant, went missing on February 8, 1975, when she was only 17, police said.

Fairfax County police said they were able track down Gildawie's half-sister through DNA testing.

Her half-sister shared that before Gildawie disappeared, she drove a white Cadillac and dated an older man who worked at an upholstery store, authorities said.

When police conducted an investigation into the remains, they initially determined that the woman had been shot in the head, and for some time, believed the remains belonged to an African-American woman in her 20's, officials said.

Earlier this year, detectives realized the remains actually belonged to a white woman and were able to them to Gildawie, from there, reports said.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information should contact Fairfax County police at 866-411-8477.
