The Montessori School of Alexandria (MSA) offers child-centered learning based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, a pioneer in educational methods and child psychology. Our classrooms are designed to foster rigorous, self-motivated growth for students in all areas of their development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical. We encourage students to follow their own curiosity assisted by Montessori-certified teachers that guide and facilitate each child’s learning experience.
The Montessori Difference
Montessori education is student-led and self-paced but guided, assessed, and enriched by knowledgeable and caring teachers, the leadership of their peers, and a nurturing environment.
Within the community of a multi-age classroom—designed to create natural opportunities for independence, citizenship, and accountability—children embrace multi-sensory learning and passionate inquiry. Individual students follow their own curiosity at their own pace, taking the time they need to fully understand each concept and meet individualized learning goals.
Given the freedom and support to question, probe deeply, and make connections, Montessori students grow up to be confident, enthusiastic, and self-directed learners and citizens, accountable to both themselves and their community. They think critically, work collaboratively, and act boldly and with integrity.
Our School
For more than 50 years, MSA has provided an educational experience that fosters a love of lifelong learning. Located just outside Old Town Alexandria, our campus is situated on three wooded acres. With an outdoor classroom and ample playgrounds, students have daily access to fresh air and nature.
We offer Early Education classrooms for students ages 3 to 6 and an Elementary classroom for students ages 6 to 12.
In addition to our regular curriculum, we offer physical education, Spanish language, and music programs for all classrooms.
Before and After School Care
We know family and work schedules are complicated. To make things a little easier, we offer care before school starting at 7:30am and after school care ending at 6pm. We offer music lessons, chess, ballet, yoga and soccer for you to choose from.
The MSA Community
MSA is fortunate to have a dynamic and engaged community of teachers, staff, and families. We provide many opportunities to families to socialize together and with our teachers and staff. These include parent events such as picnics, trunk-or-treat, spring fling and many more.
