Deputy K.L. Busch spotted the fuzzy feline as it struggled to walk across the scorching-hot concrete on a 95-degree day, Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. The kitten was dehydrated, underweight, and lethargic. The cat's mother was nowhere in sight, so Busch scooped her up and took it to get help. The animal was so sick that the deputy feared it wouldn't survive through the night.
But Busch wouldn't give up on the cat, whom she named Gremlin. She fed Gremlin with a syringe for five days until it began to thrive.
Now, Gremlin is a ball of energy who loves to play and get into trouble. A major change from when deputy Busch found her.
Deputy Busch isn't able to give Gremlin a fur-ever home, but the Stafford County Animal Shelter will put the kitten up for adoption in the next few weeks, the Sheriff's Office said.
