Maryland Ironman Winner, Dallastown HS Teacher Killed In Bicycle Crash: Officials A former Ironman Maryland All-Around winner and popular Pennsylvania high school teacher was killed in a bicycle crash in York County, friends and officials announced on Monday, July 29.  Joseph "Joe" Klinedinst, 48 of York, died at the scene of a crash at the intersection of Mt Pisgah and Ducktown roads in Hellam Township at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, according to the coroner's release and later identified by family friends and a county commissioner.  Our deepest condolences to the Klinedinst family as yesterday our community lost a great man. Sal Gomez, of Selden, was hit at around 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, in Shirley while bicycling in his first triathlon at Smith Point County Park. Boston Marathon Icon Rick Hoyt Dies After Breaking Barriers For 46 Years A Massachusetts man who participated in races and triathlons from a wheelchair pushed by his father is being remembered as a pioneer in advocacy and inclusion.  Rick Hoyt, a man with quadriplegia who competed in 32 Boston Marathons, died at age 61 from complications with his respiratory system, according to the Hoyt Foundation.  Rick began his racing career in 1977, when he asked his father, Dick Hoyt, to help him participate in a run to benefit a Lacrosse player who had been paralyzed in an accident.  The five mile run was the first of many the pair would compete in, sparking a lifetime …

NJ Triathlete Struck By Car Sees Community Support Mary Truer was out riding her bicycle when she was hit by a car. Now people in Essex County are coming together to assist her and her family. Truer, a triathlete, will need surgery, said her friend Jonathan Tabuzo, a Bloomfield native, who organized a GoFundMe fundraiser. The money will help Truer and her family during this ordeal, Tabuzo said. As of Monday, May 15, more than $5,700 has been raised.  To donate, click here.

Former Fire Captain From Mamaroneck Dies At 47 A former volunteer firefighter in Westchester County who eventually became a captain of his department has died.  Mamaroneck resident Eugene Doherty died on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the age of 47, according to his obituary.  Born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1975 before later moving to Westchester County, Doherty had a passion for being involved in his community and served as a volunteer fireman for the Village of Mamaroneck Engine 40, “Mamaro," his obituary said.  When not volunteering, he worked as a carpenter for many years and was also very involved with the triat…

Marathon Will Lead To Four-Hour Bridge Closure In Suffolk County Motorists have been advised that there will be a four-hour closure on the Smith Point Bridge over the weekend for the annual triathlon. The Suffolk County Police Department issued an alert cautioning that from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Smith Point Bridge will be closed for the Smith Point Triathlon. During the bridge closure, there will also be no access to the beach. The Smith Point Triathlon starts at Smith Point County Park, with a 500-meter Narrow Bay swim, then continues on to a 16K (9.7 miles) bike ride over the Smith Point Bridge to Wertheim National Refuge and back, …
