Killer Gets 35 Years For Deadly Bergen Town Center Stabbing: Prosecutor
A 74-year-old North Bergen man was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing a man in 2021, authorities said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, Augusto Perez stabbed Omar Cruz, a 64-year-old Albany, NY resident, to death behind the Ulta Beauty store in the Bergen Town Center mall in Maywood, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Muella said.
With his dying breath, Cruz identified his killer, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

VA Man Sexually Assaulted Teen In Englewood Multiple Times In 2003, Prosecutor Says
A 40-year-old Virginia man has been charged with sexual assault in Bergen County, NJ, authorities said.
David Persaud, of Woodbridge, VA, is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile multiple times in 2003 in Englewood, NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
At the time, the victim was between 13 and 18 years old, Musella said.
The investigation into Persaud was launched on Wednesday, May 29. He was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 8 at his home in Virginia and remanded to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center pending extradition to New Jersey.

The long arm of the law reached 2,400 miles to South America, where authorities arrested a fugitive wanted for shooting a Yonkers resident dead in Englewood late last summer.
Joshua Alvarado, 29, of New York City was captured in Medellin last Saturday, Feb. 17, with assistance from U.S. Marshals and the Colombian National Police, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Alvarado is charged with murder, felony murder, armed burglary, aggravated assault and weapons offenses, among other counts, the prosecutor said.

Infant Ingests Cocaine At Bergenfield Home, Couple Arrested
A couple were arrested after an infant ingested cocaine at the man’s Bergenfield home and had to be rushed to the hospital, authorities said.
The child was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center following a call for help from Seminary Court, a cul-de-sac behind Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, on Monday, Jan. 29.
