Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Jersey Shore: Police
An 86-year-old man was struck and killed by a pickup in Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island, authorities said.
Ralph Alston, of Little Egg Harbor, was hit while crossing Long Beach Boulevard near the intersection of 80th Street at about 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, according to Harvey Cedars Police Chief Robert Burnaford.
Alston was airlifted to AtantiCare Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries, Burnaford said.
Bladimir Montalvo Hernandez, 34, of Tuckerton, who was driving the Ford F150 pickup, had not been charged, He was not injured, the chief said.

Everything Must Go: LBI Department Store Hand's Shutters After 70 Years
After nearly 70 years in business, a highly popular Jersey Shore department and convenience store plans to close this spring.
Hand’s, on Long Beach Island, is set to close for good in early April. However, an official closing date for the store at 1310 Long Beach Blvd., in Beach Haven has not been set.
The owner of Hand’s is reportedly retiring and sold the property, according to media reports, which said the store is in “Everything Must Go” mode, with closeout markdowns on products.
