Dramatic Ice Rescue At Glen Spey Lake Saves 2 Skaters, 1 Who Fell Into Water Emergency crews staged a dramatic rescue in Sullivan County at Mohican Lake after a man was found half-submerged in icy waters and a woman stranded nearby.  The rescue occurred around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Glen Spey. According to Lumberland Fire Chief Eric Robles, with swift action from multiple agencies, the man and the woman who had been ice skating were rescued and transported for medical care. Ice Skating Accident Claims Life Of Costa Rican Woman In Bethlehem A 63-year-old Costa Rican woman died following a tragic ice-skating accident in Bethlehem, authorities announced on Monday, Dec. 30. Maria Luisa Jimenez was pronounced dead at 1:33 a.m. at St. Luke's University Hospital, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. Jimenez suffered a fatal closed head injury after falling backward and striking her head on the ice while skating, officials said. The manner of death has been ruled accidental. The incident occurred while Jimenez was visiting Bethlehem from Costa Rica. Further details about the accident have not been released.

One Dead, One Rescued After Skaters Fall Through Ice On Lake Near Route 1 One man was killed and another was rescued after the two fell through the ice on Rogers Lake, just north of Route 1 (Boston Post Road), in Old Lyme late Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when the two were ice skating. Harry Jewett, 60, of Old Lyme, did not resurface. After a search-and-rescue operation, his body was recovered around 4:30 p.m., state police said. His friend, Larry Buhl of North Haven, 51, was rescued after clinging to a chunk of ice while up to his shoulders in the freezing water, according to police. He was hospitalized with hypothermia.

Frozen: Private Frog Pond In Trumbull Is Open For Skating, Hockey TRUMBULL, Conn. — It might be frigid outside, but there's a positive side to that: The Frog Pond at the Nichols Improvement Association in Trumbull is now open for skating. "The pond is ready!" exclaims a Facebook post from the NIA in Trumbull.  The ice is thick enough on the pond to use it for ice skating and hockey.  "Shoveling to keep the ice clear of snow is appreciated as is taking any garbage with you and keeping the area clean," said a Facebook post. The rink is open only to members of the Nichols Improvement Association.
