Longtime PA Girl Scout Volunteer Killed By Cancers Less Than 1 Week After Diagnoses
A mom of two of her own children but scout mom to hundreds, has died following a short battle with cancers, her family told Daily Voice shortly after her passing.
Stephanie J. (Porter) Pikora, 61 originally of Dudley, Mass. but more recently of Harrisburg, PA, passed away just after 3 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
She was the youngest of five children born to Lorraine (Bonnette) and Lawrence Porter in Webster, MA on Oct. 14, 1962.

Tributes are hitting social media for lifelong Morris County resident Michelle Lee (Boise) Bernal, who died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 22 aged 48.
Born in Dover, Michelle lived in Wharton and Dover her whole life and took her First Holy Communion at St. Mary's Catholic Church, her obituary says.
Michelle spent her childhood participating in gymnastics, girl scouts, soccer, skating, cheerleading, band, and bowling. She also played baseball with the Wharton Fire Department little league team.

Monica Elvira Rosas Dominguez of Arlington died on Jan. 14, at 17 years old.
The teen's family launched a GoFundMe campaign that had raised more than $24,500 as of Saturday, Feb. 4.
The campaign says Monica battled "anxiety, depression, and a severe eating disorder" for years. But she didn't let it define her.
"Monica had many interests such as being a member of girl scouts since kindergarten, rec soccer, Mexican Folk dance, volunteering at the pet shelter to help feed the cats, and cooking delicious meals/pastries for her loved ones," the page reads.

Lehigh Valley Sunday school teacher and devoted wife and mother Christy Snyder-Padula Smith died unexpectedly at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono on Monday, Aug. 15. She was 29.
Born in Allentown, Christy attended Northampton High School, where she played softball, marched and played flute in band, and danced with Steps in Time of Allentown before graduating in 2011, her obituary says.
Christy then went on to attend Northampton Community College and play softball for Northampton AA and Allen Township, according to her memorial.

Father, Daughter Wanted In Girl Scout Cookie Scam Targeting Local NY Residents
Police in New York are reporting they have received at least 11 complaints from residents who said they gave to buy Girl Scouts cookies that were never delivered.
The incidents on Long Island were reported to Suffolk County Police between Saturday, June 18, and Monday, June 20, the department said.
Police say the alleged cookie scam took place in the following communities: Lake Ronkonkoma, Bohemia, and Patchogue, to Shirley to Mastic.
The money was given to a man who accompanied a young girl during some of the incidents, and in others, the girl was alone, police said.

To some, it’s simply a new swing set. But to a 14-year-old Hawthorne boy with severe autism, it means so much more.
Spencer Schiavo "doesn't care about toys or material things that most kids enjoy," his stepmother, Julie Skolnik-Schiavo, said. "But he loves movement and does love to go on swings."
Unfortunately, the year-round school he attends has been without swings for months, due to age and damage, she said.
