It happened on the 3700 block of Germantown Avenue on Friday, May 12, according to a release from the department. The victim, 32, was with his infant son on the sidewalk when the suspect walked by, police wrote.

Authorities say the men "briefly exchanged words" before the suspect pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and fired six rounds. The suspect is seen shooting and then fleeing in surveillance footage released by police.

The victim was struck four times in the left leg and placed in critical condition at a nearby hospital, police said. His status as of Friday, May 19 was unclear.

The gunman is described by investigators as a black man with a medium build and a full beard. He was wearing a dark baseball cap, a gray hoodie with a large graphic on the front, and black pants, they added.

Anyone with information is asked to call or text city police at 215-686-8477 or submit an anonymous tip on the department's website.
