Lazarus Anders Burleson of Mont Alto was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trail Blazer north on Black Gap Road when he attempted to turn left onto Scotland Main Street, PSP troopers explained. That's when he entered the southbound lane of Black Gap Road and was struck by a 2021 Peterbilt 567 dump truck driven by 66-year-old Bradley R. Leedy of Chambersburg.
The crash happened in the 4500 block of Scotland Main Street at 5:47 a.m. on June 13, as detailed in the release.
Burleson was found trapped in his Trail Blazer with the engine on fire, authorities explained in multiple releases. PSP and bystanders quickly freed Leedy and used an extinguisher on the fire in the engine compartment of his vehicle to extinguish the fire on Burleson's, according to the fire department.
The Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department soon arrived. Firefighters finished putting out the blaze and then cleared a landing zone on Green Township Park for Life Net 81 to airlift Burleson to WellSpan York Hospital, the department explained.
Leedy was taken to WellSpan York Hospital, according to PSP.
Burleson was charged with "3322 vehicle turning left," as stated in the PSP release.
He previously pleaded guilty to driving without car insurance in June 2023, court records show. Court documents for the crash were unavailable at the time of publishing.
