Berks Intruder Told Homeowner He Was 'Looking For His Kids,' Troopers Say When a Berks County resident woke up to an intruder in his home and confronted him, the alleged burglar said he was only "looking for his kids," said state police.  It happened in Washington Township early on March 4, troopers wrote in a release. Garbage Truck Driver Struck Dead By Passing Car After Plowing His Vehicle Into Berks Home A garbage truck crashed into a home in Berks County in the early morning of Friday. Oct. 21, according to a report from WFMZ. The accident occurred on Schulz Road in Hereford Township at around 5:30 a.m.,  the outlet reported.  The driver, 55-year-old Scott L. Fichter of Bethlehem, exited the truck after the crash, but the vehicle continued to roll forward and ran him over, said Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio in a statement Friday afternoon.  Fichter was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where authorities pronounced him dead, the coroner added.&nbs…

Police Seek ID For Hit-Run Driver In Berks County Pennsylvania State Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a hit-and-run driver in Berks County. The vehicle pictured above was seen on surveillance video striking the Seisholtzville Fire Company's mailbox, driving through bushes, and hitting more items in the parking lot on Saint Peters Road in  Hereford Township around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, state police said. Berks County Boy, 10, Shot, Killed During Target Practice, DA Says A 10-year-old Berks County boy was shot and killed during target practice on Thanksgiving Day, authorities said. Responders carried the boy out of the woods to an ambulance after he was shot near his home about 100 feet off Chestnut Street in Hereford Township around 1:30 p.m., they said.
