Sex Extortion Scam Circulating Through Emails In Sullivan County, Sheriff Says Police in the region are warning of an automated sex extortion scam that is targeting residents through emails. Undersheriff Eric Chaboy of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said that scammers are acquiring emails and personal information on the so-called “Dark Web” and feeding it into what appears to be an artificial intelligence (AI) program that automatically contacts potential victims. 39-Year-Old Accused Of Forcing Way Into Craryville Home A Capitol Region man is behind bars after allegedly forcing his way into the home of a person he had a prior relationship with. Columbia County resident David A. Grant Jr., age 39, of Craryville, was charged on Sunday, Oct. 13. According to Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police, an investigation determined Grant forced entry into the residence of the victim through a bathroom window and struck the victim. Double-Fatal Crash: Men In 20s ID'd As Victims After Vehicle Hits Deer In Lumberland Two men from the region were killed when the vehicle they were riding struck a deer and then a tree, ejecting both. The incident occurred in Sullivan County at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, in the area of 196 Rio Dam Road in Lumberland. According to Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, an investigation revealed that two men were riding a single four-wheel ATV westbound on Rio Dam Road when they struck a deer in the roadway.  Chaboty said this caused the quad to leave the pavement and strike a tree. Victims ID'd After Double-Fatal Wrong-Way Driver Crash In LaGrange Two men were killed during a wrong-way driver crash on the Taconic State Parkway in the Hudson Valley. The incident occurred in Dutchess County at 2:40 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, in LaGrange. According to New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks, an initial investigation determined Joseph W. LaFave, age 35, of LaGrange, driving a 2017 BMW X1, traveled north in the southbound lane on the Taconic State Parkway in the area of Todd Hill Road.  Hicks said LaFave struck a 2017 Lincoln Navigator head-on in the left southbound lane.
