Garbage Truck Fire Shuts Down Northampton Roadway: Police A garbage truck fire shut down a Northampton roadway on Monday, Oct. 28, police said. The 1000 block of Cressman Street in Plainfield Township was shut down so the Plainfield Township Fire Department could fight the blaze, according to the Slate Belt Regional Police Department.  Fire crews extinguished the blaze quickly, police said. However, police are still asking drivers to avoid the area as crews continue to clean up garbage from the roadway. No injuries were reported, according to police.

At about 3:40 a.m., an unusual incident occurred at 1273 Kelly Drive in the 22nd District. Police and fire department personnel responded to a 911 call reporting that a black four-door sedan had been seen driving into the river. The vehicle was located; however, at press time no driver or passenger had been located, police said. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Unconscious Man Rescued From Roof In Lancaster County: Officials (Photos) Multiple fire companies worked together to rescue an unconscious man from the roof of a home on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14, the Witmer Fire Protective Association announced later that day.  The elderly man was found "not alert, stuck on top of a roof of a mobile home, and unable to get down," as stated in the release.  Members of Lafayette, Witmer, and Ronks fire companies, as well as Lancaster EMS, worked together to get the man down safely. It's unclear why the man was on the roof.

Body Found In Garage After Fire, Philadelphia Police Say One person is dead after a garage caught fire in southwest Philadelphia early on Thursday, March 21, authorities say. Police and firefighters were called to the 7600 block of Este Avenue in the city's Eastwick neighborhood just before 1:30 a.m., PPD said. After the flames were extinguished firefighters found the victim's body inside the garage, according to police.  They were pronounced dead at the scene. Devlin, a longtime member and one-time deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Fire Department, died last Sunday, Jan. 14, his colleagues said. Resident Rescued From Burning Home In Philadelphia, Authorities Say One person was pulled from their burning West Philadelphia home and treated for injuries early on Tuesday, Aug. 1, according to authorities.  It happened near the corner of North 57th and Harmer streets around 6 a.m., the Fire Department confirmed to Daily Voice.  The resident was rescued, evaluated at the scene by first responders, and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, PFD said. His condition as of Tuesday afternoon was not clear.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Fire Marshal, a department spokesperson added.
