Woman, 21, Charged In SEPTA Driver's Deadly Shooting
The woman accused of killing a SEPTA bus driver on his route Thursday morning, Oct. 26 now faces murder charges, according to authorities. Twenty-one-year-old Zhontay Capers was arrested by plainclothes SEPTA police officers less than a mile from the scene of the shooting, officials said. No weapon was recovered from her person. Authorities said Route 23 driver Bernard Gribbin was shot in the torso and throat around 10:30 a.m. near Germantown and East Abottsford avenues. Two Philadelphia police officers were shot — one fatally — while in the parking garage at the Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday night. Officer Richard Mendez, a 50-year-old with 22 years in the department, was hit multiple times and died from his wounds, PPD brass said at a Friday evening press conference. Officer Raul Ortiz, 60, was hit once in the arm and is in stable condition at Jefferson Hospital, according to Interim Commissioner John Stanford.
