Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Paterson Ex-Con Charged With Shooting Female Clifton Bystander, 19, In Bodega UPDATE: A Paterson ex-con surrendered to police Wednesday in connection with the shooting of an innocent bystander from Clifton at a city bodega. Keith Hill, 26, is charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He remained held in the Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing. Authorities apparently were looking to charge other suspects, but they didn't disclose details. Truck Keeps Going After Dropping Ton And Half Of Garbage On Route 46 Ramp A truck dropped nearly a ton and a half of baled residential trash onto an exit ramp off Route 46 in Ridgefield Park and kept going Monday afternoon, authorities said. Handgun, Ammo Found In Ridgefield Clothing Bin A handgun and several rounds of ammunition were found tossed into a charity clothing bin in Ridgefield early Monday, authorities said. An employee with Planet Aid summoned police to the H Mart shopping plaza on Broad Avenue just after 8 a.m., Police Chief Thomas J. Gallagher said. SUV Crashes Into Ridgewood Garage Two people were hospitalized with what appeared to be minor injuries Sunday afternoon after an SUV crashed into a detached garage in Ridgewood. The Godwin Avenue garage sustained moderate structural damage, drawing a village subcode official, in the 2 p.m. crash. Both occupants were taken by ambulance to The Valley Hospital.
