Man Critically Hurt In South Philly Fire, Officials Say An apartment caught fire on Thursday, July 18, sending one man to the hospital with serious injuries, Philadelphia police said.  The blaze happened above a vacant barber shop on the 1900 block of South 22nd Street around 9 a.m., authorities wrote in a release. The home was "engulfed in flames" when first responders arrived.  The 63-year-old victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Philadelphia on Cedar Avenue in critical condition, police said. The officer was conducting stationary work enforcement in the westbound lanes with his emergency lights fully activated near milepost 340.5 in Philadelphia, when he was struck around 3:50 a.m., a spokesperson for the agency said. The trooper sustained moderate injuries as a result of the impact and was taken by Philadelphia Fire and EMS to the hospital for further evaluation.
