CDC Sounds Alarm Over Hard-To-Treat Infections: What To Know Germs that can outsmart lifesaving medicines are posing a growing threat, and the CDC’s latest assessment identifies which ones warrant the greatest concern. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new “Antimicrobial Resistance Threats Report” identifies 19 threats responsible for an estimated 9.7 million infections and 50,800 deaths annually in the US.
