Ridgewood Administrator Takes Over As Director Of Fort Lee Library
FORT LEE, N.J. — Chris Yurgelonis began her first day on the job as director of the Fort Lee Public Library on Monday with one goal in mind: to make it more of a destination. The former assistant director at Ridgewood Library replaces Rita Altomara, who served for over 30 years as the FLPL director. "It is such a thrill to be here," Yurgelonis, 43, told Daily Voice. Hackensack Gives Away 'Plastic-Free' Starter Kits
HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Hackensack Cultural Arts Department has launched an initiative to help cut down on the city's plastic waste. As part of "Working To Be Plastic-Free," all city residents are encouraged to come down to 102 State Street and receive a plastic-free starter kit. The free starter kit includes: A reusable stainless steel water bottle; A tote bag for groceries; A reusable lunch bag; Pens made from bamboo that are 87% plastic free; Notepads. Harlem Wizards Come To Fort Lee High School
FORT LEE, N.J. — Fort Lee High School will play the Harlem Wizards in a game of basketball tricks and alley-oops on Tuesday, May 17. The event will feature prizes, contests and opportunities to meet the Wizards' players. Proceeds from the event will support the Scott Vasel Scholarship Fund and the Fort Lee High School boys basketball team and girls volleyball teams. BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Bergenfield police are among several law enforcement agencies in Bergen and Passaic counties who will participate in the federal DEA's national Drug Take Back Day next Saturday. CARLSTADT, N.J. — This season for the first time ever, Carlstadt will have its own girls softball team representing the borough in the District 5 Little League and the South Bergenite Little League. HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Hackensack Department of Cultural Arts invites volunteers to "Slam Dunk the Junk" on Saturday, April 30. "Slam Dunk The Junk" is an initiative that incentivizes nonprofits to participate in a citywide cleanup day in return for a $300 donation to their organization via Hackensack's $60,000 Clean Communities Grant.
