James Sanders, 29, of West Haverstraw, and Garlain Francois, 22, of Spring Valley were both apprehended and charged with attempted murder, a felony, following a shooting in the village of Haverstraw on Oct. 19, Haverstraw Police Lt. Martin Lund said.
The incident, according to Lund, took place at the intersection of Allison Avenue and Broad Street where there was an argument between two men and another group. Subsequently, one of the males pulled out a handgun and fired at another male standing in the group. No one was struck by any bullets that were fired.
When officers arrived at the scene they observed several shell casings in the street, Lund said.
After detectives conducted interviews they identified Sanders as a suspect and took him into custody at his residence without incident. Francois was identified as the second male suspect and was taken into custody by the Rockland County Sheriff's Department before he was turned over to Haverstraw police.
Bail was set at $250,000 for Francois, who was arraigned in the West Haverstraw Justice Court before he was remanded to the county jail.
Sanders was arraigned in Haverstraw Town Justice Court and remanded to the county jail.
