Fire Chief, Highway Super In Region Charged With Sex Crimes Against Child, Police Say
A fire chief and town highway superintendent in the region has been arrested for alleged sex crimes against a child.
Sullivan County resident Robert Hufcut, age 55, of Wurtsboro, was arrested on Tuesday, May 31, for several sex crimes following a months-long investigation.
Hufcut, who is the Mamakating Highway Superintendent and Summitville Fire Department Chief in Sullivan County, has been charged with predatory sexual assault against a child and course of sexual conduct against a child, said Trooper Steven Nevel, of the New York State Police.

Hudson Valley Man Accused Of Having Sexual Conduct With Child
A New York man is behind bars, accused of sexually abusing a young child.
Orange County resident Jairo Garcia, age 31, of Newburgh, was arrested Wednesday, May 18, following an investigation by Orange County Child Protective Services and New York State Police.
Investigators accused him of engaging in sexual conduct with a child under the age of 13.
Garcia was charged with second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, police said.

A Hudson Valley man has been charged with murder and arson in connection with allegedly intentionally starting a fire at a home with people sleeping inside, killing one person.
Orange County resident Ryan Veloce, age 32, of Montgomery, was charged with murder and arson on Friday, Dec. 16, in connection with the Thursday, June 10 crime, said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.

A Hudson Valley man who has been on the run in connection with a shooting earlier this year has been captured and charged with attempted murder.
Orange County resident Lavelle Stackhouse, age 24, of Newburgh, was arraigned on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and charged with attempted murder in the second degree.
According to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, the indictment was in connection with a shooting of a man in the middle of the day on Williams Street, in the City of Newburgh, on Wed. Sept. 8.

Hudson Valley Woman Admits To Abusing 7-Month-Old Granddaughter, Causing Her To Go Blind
A Hudson Valley grandmother has pleaded guilty to assaulting her baby granddaughter, causing the child to go blind.
Orange County resident Kimberly Bennett, age 45, of Middletown, made the plea on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
The assault, which occurred in February 2020, at Bennett’s home on Bedford Avenue, in the City of Middletown, resulted in the child suffering serious physical injury including damage to her brain and eyes, and rendered the child blind, said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
