EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Leon L. Sawicki Sr. of East Rutherford died on Feb 2. He was 86. Sawicki served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean War. For over 10 years, he was a design draftsman for Summit Scientific in Fairfield and retired in 1996. Afterwards, for over five years, he was a crossing guard in East Rutherford and also aided the East Rutherford Police Dept. with security for court and special events. Beloved husband of Darlene A. Elmwood Park Football Bombers Tackle Campaign For New Uniforms
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- The uniforms for the Elmwood Park Football Bombers are older than the players wearing them. Some of the cheerleaders have mismatched tops or skirts. "The sob story is, we need money and we need uniforms. Our uniforms are 14 years old," said Steve Zaccone, who is starting his sixth year as the football league's president. RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- At least 150 volunteers will sing, dance, strum, drum, paint and more to take the Ridgewood community on a "World Tour" for the annual Jamboree fundraiser. The original musical revue raises funds for need-based college scholarships for graduating Ridgewood High School seniors.
