Lourdes advanced to the Class A state championship game last fall, before a devastating, 49-46, loss to South Park of Buffalo, ending a 10-3 fall.
Walsh, in his seventh season at Lourdes, knows how hard it is to get a team to the state championship. He did it twice with Brewster too, but has yet to come away with a title.
"Getting back there is hard," Walsh told Daily Voice during a visit to Warriors training camp. "It's very hard."
Walsh added that while last year's sectional championship team lost some key players to graduation, he also has some talent to build around.
"We're looking for leaders," Walsh said. "We lost some key pieces from last year's team. We do have a number of linemen back and hopefully enough back that if we work hard, we can compete in Class A."
Walsh and the Warriors open the season Friday, September 2, against his old team, Brewster, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Bears Field.
