State Police In Wappinger Charge Man, 38, With Rape

A Florida man who traveled to Fishkill to have sex with a girl under the age of 17 was charged Thursday with 10 counts of rape by New York State Troopers.

Matthew D. Walder, 38, of Ponte Vedra, was charged with rape after an investigation revealed he had a sexual relationship with the victim whom he met at a family event, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.

McMorris said the investigation revealed that, between September of 2016 and January of 2017, Walder had a sexual relationship with the female victim.

Walder is being held at the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28.
