A section of Route 55 in the Town of Beekman has reopened after being closed in both directions because of an overturned tractor-trailer crash.
The truck was attempting to avoid a car that pulled out in front of the vehicle, which was hauling gravel, said Capt. John Watterson, of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
The crash took place just before 10 a.m., Monday, May 6, closing the roadway between Beekman Road and Palmer Circle until around 1:45 p.m.
According to Watterson, the truck was traveling eastbound on Route 55 when a vehicle pulled out from a gas station in front of the truck. The driver then swerved in order to avoid hitting the vehicle and turned over, spilling gravel all over the roadway, he said.
A third driver, who was behind the truck, also swerved to avoid hitting the truck. That driver received minor injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured, Watterson said.
The driver of the car that pulled out in front of the truck kept going and police are searching for the vehicle, he added.
An investigation is underway.
